Kindergarten Roundup

Sometimes it's hard to believe how quickly time flies.  How is my son old enough to go to kindergarten roundup?  How did two weeks fly by since we attended kindergarten roundup?

We have talked about kindergarten quite thoroughly in an attempt to prepare Aric for school in the fall.  Aric was excited to see his new school up close rather than just drive by it.  When we walked into the building one of the kindergarten teachers introduced herself to Aric and asked his name.  He responded with, "I'm Aric and I'm 4".  She laughed and asked if he wanted to go with her to see what the other kids were doing.  He took her hand, waved goodbye to me, and off he went.

That was my first heartbreaking moment of motherhood.  I'm glad we have done a good job in making sure he's secure and independent, but he could have at least hugged me or pretended he was going to miss me.

Aric spent the next two hours, working on craft projects, playing, riding a school bus and listening to story time.  I spent two hours listening to the principal give a power point presentation over the upcoming school year.

I'm glad Aric is looking forward to kindergarten...

...and I'll gladly sit through boring power point presentations if I receive more cute photos of my child as a reward.

Hair Requests

Last week Kellyn asked me to put her hair in a side ponytail.

I might need to take some hairstyling courses if her requests get any more complicated then that.

Things Heard Around Here

A few times a year I load up the kids and travel to the nearest Commissary to do some grocery shopping.  It's always a big trip as I load up on all of the staples for our pantry, and things that will get us through for another three to four months.  It's significantly cheaper and always worth the trip.

We were nearing the end of our shopping excursion, our cart was overflowing, when Aric turned around.  He eyed the cart, looked at me and said,

Are you nuts?  That will take forever to put into the car.

Ponytail

About a week and a half ago Kellyn came up to me one morning and requested that I put her hair in a ponytail.   I was a bit surprised since this was coming from the girl who cried when I put her hair in pigtails.

It took me a moment since I haven't been able to practice, but I got her hair up into a ponytail.

She was delighted with her ponytail and moved her head side to side to feel it move.  When we went into the gym daycare she walked in backwards so they could see her ponytail.

Everyday since she has asked that I put her hair up in a ponytail.

I have asked if she wants pigtails, but she is insistent that she only wants one.

With practice I'm getting a bit better at fixing her hair.

It makes my heart hurt a bit to see how quickly she is growing up.
