Tidbits

So much has happened in the last two weeks I wouldn't know where to start.

-It was great to have my parents and younger brother here to visit. They were so helpful and gave me a chance to rest and heal for a week. I was sad to see them go except when I realized my brother stole our toothpaste.

-Being a new mom is amazing and so overwhelming. I've been worried about every little thing he does. I'm still working on coming to the realization that not every book, pamphlet and paper the hospital sends home with you is going to actually work for your baby. As long as he is being taken care of and is happy and healthy then that's all that matters! I'm refusing to read anymore books on what babies should be doing. I'm going to trust intuition and ask other trustworthy people when I need to.

-Sleep. What is that?

-Taking a nap everyday and talking to a grown up is amazing therapy for me and my husband. If I don't at least accomplish one of those during the day then my husband comes home to a crying, hormonal disaster who makes him check the baby out to make sure he looks okay.

-I'm so glad that Aric's umbilical cord fell off the other day. (He has a pretty cute outie.) Yesterday was his first day in cloth diapers and the first day that neither one of us had to change our clothes. I really hate disposable diapers. They are expensive and they leak. Now I have more laundry but everything was contained yesterday!

I'm moving

No kidding I found this note attached to our mail today.

Mr. and Mrs. Peters

On Friday I opened your mailbox and a snake was curled in it.

Please be careful! It must be living in the rocks underneath.

Wild Weather

Yesterday went by fast at work. I knew I was in for one of those days right as we were changing shifts and trying to get situated at our consoles. There was a 911 call for an injury accident. Add to that numerous traffic stops by various officers and I was already behind. I was sitting at the main console yesterday, which receives information about weather, warrants, and various “be on the lookouts” from other counties and other states. About an hour into the shift I received a thunderstorm watch for our county. Anytime there is a watch or warning we have to go down a list and notify various people and organizations. Shortly after I finished notifying everyone, we received a severe thunderstorm warning. My first thought was it was kind of annoying because now I had to call those same people back and let them know.

The storm was actually three separate storms. We had everyone traipsing through the dispatch room from about 9am-1pm, because that area becomes the headquarters for emergency management. The storm was massive and had everything from pea size hail to soft ball size hail. Yes, softball. When one of the officers gave that report on the radio we all did a double take just to confirm he didn’t say golf ball. They decided to sound the storm/tornado sirens to alert everyone to the intensity of this storm and hopefully save the lives of silly people who still like to be outside during events like this. Thankfully no lives were lost. We had some injuries, a lot of damage to vehicles and buildings and thankfully none of the funnel clouds that were seen in the air ever touched down and turned into tornadoes.

I had taken my husband’s vehicle to work yesterday and he had taken mine. Both vehicles sustained some minor hail damage. Considering some people have to buy new windows or have their cars totaled, I think we can get past some minor dents. Thankfully we had left our truck at home parked in our shed. It came through without a problem.
